An honest note before the numbers: SmileBound is a new service, so this is not a patient testimonial. It is an illustrative worked example, built from real published UK and Bulgarian clinic prices, showing what a typical single-implant trip looks like. We will publish real, consented patient stories as they happen — and nothing else.

£5,800 is a realistic UK private quote for a single implant with a zirconia crown. Many people put treatment off for years at that price. Here is what the same treatment typically costs in Bulgaria once you include the whole trip.

The numbers

Worked example: single implant + zirconia crown

Implant + abutment + zirconia crown (published Bulgarian clinic prices)~£1,600
Return flights (UK → Bulgaria, typical budget fare)~£80
4 nights accommodation~£220
Airport transfers + food~£120
Total all-in cost~£2,020
~£3,780 potential saving vs a £5,800 UK quote — after all travel costs

For a full-arch All-on-4 case, those savings scale dramatically. UK prices for All-on-4 typically run £10,000–£15,000 per arch. In Bulgaria, the same treatment from a well-equipped clinic costs £3,500–£5,500. Patients saving £8,000–£10,000 on full-arch work is not unusual.

What the trip typically looks like

A typical single-implant trip runs like this: fly out on a Sunday. Consultation and CT scan on Monday — well-equipped Bulgarian clinics have CBCT scanners on-site, the same as any specialist implant centre in the UK. Surgery on Tuesday. A follow-up check on Wednesday, then home Thursday morning.

Good clinics arrange airport transfers, and comfortable hotels near city-centre clinics run around £50–£60 a night. Cities like Plovdiv, Sofia and Varna are genuinely pleasant places to spend a few days — old towns, good restaurants, and far cheaper day-to-day costs than the UK.

The implant itself

Reputable Bulgarian clinics publish prices for the same systems used in premium UK implant centres — Straumann, Neodent and other established European brands. The process, the materials and the aftercare protocols are the same. The difference is the cost and the postcode.

Always ask which implant brand is being used. Reputable clinics in Bulgaria use the same European implant systems as UK practices — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem. If a clinic won't tell you the brand upfront, that's a reason to look elsewhere.

Is this everyone's experience?

No — and it's worth being honest about that. Some patients have bad experiences abroad. Usually because they didn't vet the clinic properly, chased the absolute cheapest quote, or booked through a platform with no real oversight of quality. The saving is real. The risk of cutting corners is also real.

That's exactly why SmileBound exists. We check every clinic against strict criteria — EU licensing, dentist credentials, materials, written guarantees — and we only refer patients to practices we'd send a family member to. A smooth trip isn't luck. It's the result of going to the right clinic.

Is your case right for treatment in Bulgaria?

Single implants and straightforward multi-implant cases work very well for dental tourism. Complex cases involving significant bone grafting, sinus lifts or full-arch reconstruction can also be done here — but they require more planning and typically two or more trips. We'll tell you honestly whether your case is a good fit before you commit to anything.
